US Chicken Exports To Russia Is To Resume In September

"Shipments of US broiler chicken to Russia is to resume in September" as head of Rospotrebnadzor mentioned earlier today. "Considering all remaining procedures we expect to allow shipments as early as September" - said Mr. Onishenko

Given the fact that US and Russia has already exchanged all official documents pertaining to the issue of US broiler chicken exports to Russia, it was agreed that United States is willing and will change its current technology that is used in processing of poultry products that are to be exported to Russia.

"Currently our partners in United States preparing a list of processors, who will be supplying poultry to Russian Federation. Afterwards we will proceed with inspection procedures that will identify if American poultry suppliers have transitioned to chlorine free processing. Only then we will resume export of US Chicken to Russia" said head of Rospotrebnadzor Mr. Onishenko.

On January 1st 2010 a ban on export of US produced chicken was set in place due to the chlorine disinfection practices. Entire US poultry industry was affected by this ban, and up to date there were no poultry export to Russian Federation from USA. Throughout the year US and Russian officials have been discussing the issue on sever occasions, where in the end United States agreed to change its poultry processing and disinfection techniques. Just to note same ban was in place for European Union where poultry that is treated with chlorine is not to be imported.

As it was mentioned earlier in a statement by Mr. Onishenko " Readiness of our American partners in fulfilling our demands in regards to poultry disinfection techniques, is good proof of a good change in our relationship. Accents has shifted to expert and professional approach with open dialog rather than being another political need to do instance" said Mr Onishenko.

Earlier in June 2010 President Barak Obama has announced, that after meeting with Russian leader Dmitry Medvedev in Washington, they have agreed to remove any barriers on export for US manufactured poultry products.

After an official announcement by President Barak Obama, Rospotrebnadzor official has announced that US poultry processors have been offered at least 12 methods of poultry disinfection methods that does not involve chlorine.

"Those proposed methods of poultry disinfection are less harmful to the human health. Also those methods will encourage biological as well as chemical safety of the food." said Mr. Onishenko
